In New Zealand, there is a unique law that recognizes some animals as sentient beings, including dogs, cats, and any other animal that is not human. Important Note: Prior to transportation to an approved country, it is imperative that all dogs undergo either an IFA (indirect fluorescent antibody) test or ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) test for Babesia gibsoni. The test results must be negative and obtained within 16 days before the scheduled shipment date. Alternatively, dogs must undergo two PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests for Babesia species or Babesia gibsoni. These tests should yield negative results, with samples collected 30 to 37 days apart. The second sample must be collected within the 16 days leading up to the shipment date. Please be aware that dogs diagnosed with Babesia gibsoni are ineligible for import, irrespective of treatment. To ensure compliance with regulations, it is highly recommended to conduct the Babesia test in India before initiating the transportation process to the approved country.
