Before relocating to Poland with your pet, research local pet ownership regulations and requirements in your intended city or region. Joining local pet communities or expat groups on platforms like Facebook can also provide valuable tips, support, and firsthand experiences from fellow pet parents in Poland.

STEP 1: Initiate the Process Early
Begin preparing for your pet’s relocation to Poland at least 4 months in advance to meet all EU import requirements on time.
STEP 2: Measure Your Pet
Accurately measure your pet and purchase an IATA-compliant travel crate. Recommended brands include Petmate, VariKennel, and SkyKennel, all of which we can help you source.
STEP 3: Crate Training
Help your pet adjust to its travel crate well in advance. Refer to our Crate Training Guide for effective techniques and tips.
STEP 4: Microchip Implantation
Have your pet implanted with an ISO 11784/785 compliant 15-digit microchip before rabies vaccination. We can help with microchip procurement or connect you with qualified vets.
STEP 5: Vaccination Protocol
-
Dogs: Anti-Rabies, DHLPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus)
-
Cats: Anti-Rabies, FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia)
STEP 6: Rabies Titer Test (RNATT)
30 days after rabies vaccination, a blood sample must be drawn for rabies antibody titration.
-
Test must show ≥0.5 IU/ml
-
Conducted in an EU-approved lab
-
Wait at least 90 days after successful test before travel

STEP 7: Choose Mode of Relocation
Pets must enter Poland via designated Border Inspection Posts (Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw, Gdansk, etc.). Choose from:
-
Accompanied Baggage: Pet travels with you, either as cabin baggage or in the hold
-
Manifest Cargo: Pet travels alone as booked cargo
-
Premium Service: An Anvis Pet Expert accompanies your pet door-to-door for maximum safety and care
STEP 8: Select the Airline & Book Pet’s Space
Choose an airline based on route efficiency, stopovers, weather, and crate dimensions. Confirm pet travel booking with the airline or through your pet relocation coordinator.
STEP 9: Vet Check & Document Endorsement
Within 10 days of travel, visit your vet for:
-
General health check
-
Microchip certification
-
Parasite treatment certificates
-
Sterilization and fitness-to-fly documentation
STEP 10: Tapeworm Treatment (Dogs Only)
Administer tapeworm treatment (e.g., Praziquantel) between 24–120 hours before entering Poland. Document the treatment with the vet’s endorsement.
STEP 11: Obtain the EU Health Certificate
Have your vet complete and get endorsed the EU Annex IV Health Certificate from the Government Veterinary Authority. It’s valid for 10 days from issuance.
STEP 12: Comply with the EU 5-Day Rule
Pets must arrive within 5 days before or after the pet parent for the move to be considered non-commercial. Beyond this, commercial import rules apply. Clarify this with your relocation specialist.
STEP 13: Final Health Check & Certificate Issuance
Schedule a final check with the Government Veterinarian 4–5 days prior to departure to validate all certificates and address any last-minute requirements.

While Poland, in general, is considered a pet-friendly country, specific neighborhoods within cities may vary in terms of pet-friendliness. Here are some cities in Poland known for being pet-friendly, but it’s important to note that pet-friendly policies can depend on individual landlords, housing complexes, and local regulations:
Warsaw:
• Mokotów: Another district in Warsaw with parks and recreational areas where residents often walk their dogs.
Krakow:
• Salwator: This district, known for its historic charm, has areas suitable for dog walks and outdoor activities.
Wroclaw:
• Ołtaszyn: Ołtaszyn is a residential area with green spaces, making it suitable for pet parents.
Gdansk:
• Oliwa: Oliwa is known for its beautiful Oliwa Park, providing a pleasant environment for pet parents.
Poznan:
• Wilda: Located near the Warta River, Wilda offers outdoor spaces for pets.
When looking for pet-friendly neighborhoods in Poland, consider factors such as the presence of parks, green spaces, and the general attitude of the community toward pets. Additionally, it’s crucial to communicate with landlords or property management companies to understand their specific policies regarding pet parentship in rental properties. Joining local expat or pet parent communities can also provide valuable insights into the pet-friendly aspects of different neighborhoods.
