STEP 1: Initiate Early Planning
We recommend to begin the pet relocation process at least 8 months before the intended movement date.
STEP 2: Microchip Implantation
Insert an ISO 11784/785 microchip with 15 digits before Rabies vaccination. Your veterinarian can assist, or contact us for microchip procurement.
STEP 3 : Vaccination Protocols

- Dogs: Anti Rabies, DHLPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus), with recommended Bordetella and Corona.
- Cats: Anti Rabies, FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia).
- Administer vaccinations after microchip implantation.
- Administer a second rabies vaccination at least 30 days after the first shot, (considering the date of the first vaccination as day 0) within its effective period.
STEP 4 : Rabies Serology Titration Test

- Conduct Rabies Titer Test after 30 days, sending the blood sample to an EU-approved Laboratory. Acceptable result is >=0.5 IU/ml.
- Waiting period is 180 days or more, counting from the date of the blood sampling.
STEP 5 : Measure and Crate Procurement
Measure your pet and acquire an IATA-specified crate. Opt for trusted brands like Petmate, Varipet, or SkyKennel for enhanced sturdiness and safety that can be purchased.
STEP 6 : Crate Training
Ensure your pet is comfortable and acclimatized to the travel crate for at least a month before relocating to Japan. Refer to our crate training document for helpful tips.
STEP 7: Finalize Relocation Type

- In-Cabin/Accompanied Baggage: Pets travel with the parent in the same flight, either in the cargo hold or as In-Cabin based on airline regulations.
- Manifest Cargo: Pets travel alone as cargo on a passenger or freighter flight.
- Premium Option: An Anvis Pet Relocation Specialist transports the pet from door to door, either ‘In-Cabin’ or ‘In-Hold’ based on size, weight, carrier, and airline regulations.
STEP 8: Apply for Import Permit
Required with a 40-day advance notification
STEP 9: Japan Health Certificate
Obtain an endorsed Health Certificate (Form AC/AB) from the origin country.
STEP 10: Quarantine Requirements
For dogs and cats meeting specific criteria, the quarantine period for import inspection will be within 12 hours upon arrival in Japan.
STEP 11: Government Veterinarian Appointment

- Schedule a meeting with the Government Veterinarian (AQCS) for a health check and the issuance of a Health Certificate, usually valid for 10 days.
- Recommend getting certificates 4-5 days before travel for flexibility in case of flight delays.
