PET RELOCATION TO AUSTRIA

   1. Microchip Identification

Your pet must be microchipped with an ISO 11784/11785-compliant 15-digit microchip before receiving a rabies vaccination. If your pet has a different type of microchip, you must carry a scanner that can read it.

   2. Rabies Vaccination

• Pets must be vaccinated for rabies after microchipping.

• The rabies vaccine must be administered at least 21 days before travel for pets from EU-listed and approved third countries.

• For pets traveling from unlisted countries, a rabies titer test is mandatory.

   3. Rabies Titer Test (If Applicable)

If your pet is traveling from an unlisted country, a rabies antibody test must be conducted at an EU-approved laboratory at least 30 days after vaccination and three months before entry.

   4. EU Health Certificate

• A licensed veterinarian must issue an EU-compliant health certificate within 10 days before travel.

• This document should confirm your pet’s health, vaccinations, and microchip number.

• If traveling from a non-EU country, an Annex IV health certificate is required.

   5. Tapeworm and Parasite Treatment

Although not mandatory for all pets, dogs traveling commercially may need a documented tapeworm treatment administered 1-5 days before entry.

   6. Import Permits

For commercial pet transport (more than five pets or unaccompanied pets), an import permit and pre-registration in Austria’s TRACES system are required.
