From Home to Hungary: The Ultimate Step-by-Step Pet Relocation Guide
Relocating your beloved pet to Hungary may sound complex, but with the right guidance and preparation, it can be a smooth and safe process. At Anvis Pet Relocation, we simplify every stage of pet relocation to Hungary, ensuring that your furry companion arrives healthy, happy, and ready to explore their new home. Here’s a detailed breakdown of what you need to know:
Step 1: Confirm Your Pet’s Eligibility for Import into Hungary
Hungary welcomes domestic dogs, cats, and ferrets for personal relocation. However, wolf hybrids, Savannah cats, Bengal cats (up to the 5th generation), and wild species require special permissions and may be restricted. If you are unsure about your pet’s eligibility, our experts can help you verify it with Hungarian authorities.
Step 2: Microchip Identification (ISO-Compliant)
Your pet must be identified by a 15-digit ISO 11784/11785 microchip, ensuring seamless verification at Hungarian borders. Implant this chip before or on the same day as the rabies vaccination—this is non-negotiable as per Hungary’s strict pet import norms.
Step 3: Rabies Vaccination & Rabies Titer Test (RNATT) — Proving Immunity
-
Your pet must receive an in-date rabies vaccination post microchip insertion.
-
Pets from India (an unlisted country) must also undergo a Rabies Titer (FAVN) Test at an EU-authorised laboratory.
-
This blood sample is drawn 30 days after the rabies vaccine and the result must show antibody levels of at least 0.5 IU/ml.
-
After the titer test, your pet must wait an additional 90 days before entry to Hungary.
This crucial phase proves your pet’s immunity and avoids mandatory quarantine.
Step 4: Health Certificate & Export Documentation
Before departure, ensure you have the following:
✔️ EU Health Certificate (Annex IV) — issued within 10 days of travel by a government-authorised vet,
✔️ Export NOC (No Objection Certificate) from AQCS India,
✔️ International Health Certificate endorsed by the official government authority,
✔️ Validated Microchip & Rabies Certificate,
✔️ Rabies Titer Test Result (Original Copy).
Step 5: Tapeworm & Parasite Treatment (Dogs Only)
If relocating a dog to Hungary, your pet requires tapeworm (Echinococcus multilocularis) treatment:
-
Administered between 24 to 120 hours before entry into Hungary,
-
Medicine must contain praziquantel or equivalent,
-
This treatment must be clearly recorded by a vet on the health certificate.
🚫 Note: Cats are exempt from this requirement.
Step 6: Selecting the Travel Mode (Cabin, Cargo, or Premium Service)
Depending on your pet’s size, breed, and airline regulations, you can choose:
In-Cabin Travel: For small pets within airline-approved dimensions and weight limits,
Accompanied Baggage (In-Hold): Pets travel in the cargo hold on the same flight as you,
Manifest Cargo: For unaccompanied pets shipped via cargo services,
Anvis Premium Relocation Service: Our specialist accompanies your pet door-to-door for maximum safety and comfort.
We assist you in picking the safest and most comfortable method for your pet’s unique travel needs.
Step 7: Crate Training and IATA-Compliant Crate Selection
A proper travel crate ensures safety and comfort during the journey. Your crate must:
✔️ IATA Specified,
✔️ Allow your pet to stand, sit, turn, and lie comfortably,
✔️ Include proper ventilation, food/water bowls, and ID labeling,
✔️ Be introduced early for crate training to reduce stress.
We recommend brands such as SkyKennel, Petmate, or Varipet, available with guidance from Anvis.
