What You Need for Pet Travel to France

Relocating your pet to France involves a series of well-defined steps and strict EU regulations. Here’s everything you’ll need to ensure your pet’s safe entry into France:
ISO-Compliant Microchip
Your pet must be identified with a 15-digit ISO 11784/11785 compliant microchip, which is scannable at entry checkpoints in France. It’s essential that the microchip is implanted before or on the same day as the rabies vaccination, as this forms the foundation for all other paperwork and health certifications.
Pet Passport / Vaccination Record
This record acts as your pet’s international passport and must include:
-
Pet’s name and date of birth
-
Microchip number, date of implantation, and implant location
-
Rabies vaccination date and batch number
-
Vaccine brand and manufacturer
-
Expiry of the rabies vaccine
-
Veterinarian’s signature and stamp
-
Pet description (species, breed, color, sex)
-
Tapeworm treatment details (for dogs only)
The vaccination record must be up to date and signed by a government-authorized veterinarian.

Rabies Vaccination & Titer Test (RNATT)
-
Pets must be at least 12 weeks old for rabies vaccination.
-
After vaccination, a waiting period of 30 days is required before the Rabies Titer Test can be conducted.
-
The blood sample must be tested at an EU-approved lab, and the antibody level must be at least 0.5 IU/ml.
-
Following a successful test, you must wait 3 months before entry into France.
-
This test is valid for your pet’s lifetime as long as rabies boosters are kept up to date.
Tapeworm & Parasite Treatment (Dogs Only)
To prevent the spread of Echinococcus multilocularis, dogs must be treated for tapeworms:
-
Treatment must be given between 24–120 hours before arrival in France.
-
Must contain praziquantel or an equivalent effective against the tapeworm.
-
This treatment must be administered by a licensed vet and clearly documented in your pet’s health certificate.

Documentation Checklist
France requires several official health documents for pet import from non-EU countries:
-
✅ EU Health Certificate (Annex IV) – Issued within 10 days before travel
-
✅ International Health Certificate – Issued by India’s AQCS (Animal Quarantine & Certification Service)
-
✅ Export NOC (No Objection Certificate) – Also issued by AQCS
-
✅ Vaccination Record / Pet Passport
-
✅ Titer Test Report from an EU-approved laboratory
Without these documents, pets risk quarantine, denial of entry, or return at the owner’s expense.

IATA-Specified Crate & Travel Arrangements
All pets must travel in an IATA-specified crate that allows them to stand, sit, turn around, and lie down comfortably. Anvis Pet Relocation offers:
-
✅ Crate measurement assistance
-
✅ Crate training tips to help your pet acclimatize
-
✅ Airline booking coordination for in-cabin, accompanied baggage, or manifest cargo travel
-
✅ Premium option (door to door) where an Anvis Specialist personally accompanies your pet, ensuring a smooth journey from door to door
Note: IATA Does Not Endorse Pet Crate Brands – Caution Against “IATA APPROVED” Claims
🚫 Banned and Restricted Dog Breeds in France
When planning to relocate your dog to France, it is crucial to be aware of the country’s strict regulations concerning certain dog breeds. France categorizes potentially dangerous dogs into two distinct groups, and these rules apply regardless of the pet’s country of origin—including India.
Prohibited from Entry into France
Dogs listed under this category are considered to pose a significant risk due to their strength, size, and history of aggression. These breeds are completely banned from entering France, regardless of whether the dog has been trained or socialized:
-
Staffordshire Terrier (without pedigree)
-
American Staffordshire Terrier (commonly known as Pit Bull)
-
Mastiff (also referred to as Boerboel)
-
Tosa (without pedigree)
Even if these dogs are family pets with no history of aggression, they are not allowed to enter France under any circumstances. Breeds that resemble these, but lack official pedigree certification proving their lineage, also fall under this ban.
